‘A fresh set of legs;’ Riding horseback reveals progress of J.R. Vezain’s spine injury

for sports with Scott Breen yeah welcome back everybody right now the rest of our story on junior viz Ain last night on Q 2 we showed you what he’s been through in the last seven months since breaking not one but two vertebrae in his spine while riding bareback at a Texas rodeo doctors let him head home three and a half weeks to the ranch go he and his wife Shelby they share it in Mal stone first thing jr. did cash in on a promise to himself climbing back onto a horse I bet since I was born so longest I’ve ever been my entire life stop being horse back to six months and we tried a few times down Utah to get set up with some equine therapy places and it just never worked out and doctor notes and this that and the other thing and so I said as soon as I get home when the first things I’m going to do is get horseback again and in the big scope it took him zero amount of time we got home Friday Saturday with Shelby’s baby shower and I was horseback Saturday afternoon can it felt amazing who’s a fresh set of leg man we got slid over onto a flat bed of a pickup and one guy lifted me up over put one leg over and then I swung up I didn’t have to buckle in or nothing so it was it was pretty awesome and it doesn’t stop there once a ranch hand always a ranch hand Shelby and I were starting to put together our own cows and some sheep and stuff and you wonder if you’re going to be able to do the same stuff that you did before before the accident or before the wreck you know and it always got in the back your mind if you’re going to be able to work a ranch again or do any of that stuff so got a four-wheeler rigged up got a hole in a piece of flat metal and made a hand shifter out of it so I can shift the four-wheeler and got me a king so I can hook cabs and get cabs tagged and just help out again around the place let’s back it up a little more it didn’t take the six-time NFR qualify or long to get a job offer from the PBR vis a new whoo bull riding legend Cody Lambert was but it only met him a couple times he reached out and said I’ve been sitting here wondering how I could help out I could send you all the money in the world that you needed but he said I think the best way that I could help you out is to get you a job and right then and there the deal was done what do you think about and I tried to giggled mop and I said I don’t know if I can do that Lambert he said why not I said well just from being a rodeo cowboy the last thing you ever want to be the rodeo judge and he laughs the same train judged his first PBR velocity vent in January and his first unleash the beast event in Tacoma then naturally they also worked in here in Billings it’s been been really good at huge blasting for Shelby and I for sure to have a little source of income help us cover some bills why continue rehab know they’ll also need a little diaper money for that baby boy do in just a couple weeks since their first baby and his Junior told us last night he wants to teach him to hold the door open for his mom play football and saddle his own horse most of which JR says needs to be on his feet we’ve shared last night’s story with you at Montana sports calm
