Advanced Ice Skating Jumps : The Axel Ice Skating Jump

Advanced Ice Skating Jumps : The Axel Ice Skating Jump

Hi! I’m Simone Fisher and I’m here at Clearwater
Ice Arena in sunny Clearwater, Florida. On behalf of Expert Village, we’re going to introduce
to you some advanced figure skating jumps. This is Victoria and she will be demonstrating
and Axel. With the Axel, she’s actually going to be doing a 1 1/2 rotation in the air. She’ll
be going into it with a backwards crossovers. She’ll be jumping straight up into the air,
holding her arms together, and coming out of the jump on a back outside edge. Looks
like she’s going to start right now. Here she goes. She just landed on the back outside
edge of the opposite foot. That is the Axel.

  1. if you THINK it's scary then you won't be able to do the axel! think of it as a really easy jump – it's just like a waltz jump but with a spin in conjunction to it 🙂

  2. how the heck do you do a quad without knowing how to do a SINGLE axel? that's not even possible, so stop trying to impress people with your lies!

  3. Oh my gosh the Riedell Blue Ribbons last me 4 months!!!!!!! It's great for beginners, I am still a beginner, started skating 12 months ago at age 23, but those boots were good for 3 turns and waltz jumps. nothing more!!!!

  4. yeah ive noticed. my coach keeps yelling at me! haha.. but i have no money to upgrade! i've been saving up for a while and have 200 dollars so im going to go to the pro-shop this weekend!! excited!! lol. i think im going to go with jacksons since they're cheaper!! :] woah.. im quick to respond! hah you just sent me this like 5 minutes ago. didn't notice that. haha

  5. I have the Jackson Women's Elite Professional or something and JW Professional blades… they cost me $600.00!!! They are much better though, but it was a pain to break into those boots!!!!! Either way, new skates don't garantee you an axel hahaha. I am starting to work on it, the axel is harder than it looks lol

  6. i have S.P terri zero gravity $795!!!!!!!! i just moved up to a higher level and the skates i had b4 were cheep 200 dollar skates and couldnt support my jumps

  7. loop jump. well physically. my boots are made for all jumps and spins. and they are extreemly comfortabe when breaking in process

  8. you are lucky, i went through hell breaking into my boots!!! and I still dont feel 100% comfortable in them… they are actually starting to like, fall apart, haha, even though the hardest jump I can land is a lutz and i am working on my axel… my boots and blades are appropriate for a low level skater like me… the major problem is me lol. cant blame the skates coz u cant jump lol

  9. kids learn stuff so much faster… I started skating 1 yr ago, I was 23… chances are I am never gunna land an axel or do doubles… kids learn how to do them easily, no kidding!

  10. maybe its easy for you… why dont you post a video with more advanced stuff and show us what ADVANCED really means to you!!!

  11. I have an axel help video with a little more detail, if you want to watch it. It will be on my profile somewhere. 🙂

  12. i think that that was a good video, but if you got closer/ zoomed in more, i think it would be better… i can land my double axel (almost consistantly) and i have been skating for 5 1/2 years.I LOVE IT!!!

  13. fyi Rachel Flatt wears riedells. There are some riedells that are beginner skates. But, there are some top of the line skates from riedell. They span all levels, and you even can get customs from them.

  14. Wow I can almost do an axle but boy does it take practice
I dont mean to brag but Im really good at ice skating im going to be in 3 ice shows and iv been skating for almost 5 years 🙂

  15. All of you people who are bitching about the Closed Caption, press the fucking CC button below the damn screen to turn it off. and stop fucking bitching.

  16. @IceSkaterChick9 ~ i don't mean to brag but i've been in an ice show and ive been skating for less than a year. What's the best jump you can do?

  17. im not gay but i like her booty and legs… oh yea nice jump sike naa…umm my computer cnt really follow it

  18. Note to everyone, swimming, skating, baseball, and everything in between, never EVER click on expertvillage vids for "tips"

  19. This is crap. Back outside edge, when you go onto the forward outside edge think of jumping out of the circle but keep your right arm in front of you. As you jump imagine you are going up the stairs, that will ensure your free foot moves in front as if you were going up a step. Keep a straight back. If you will do this , you will complete the rotation and land on nice running back outside edge. It worked for me 25 years ago.

  20. I hate it how when you search how to do something, 'expert village' videos dominate the results and ALL of their videos are not at all helpful. GET OFF THE INTERNET

  21. @AzureOcean100 It's just a pitty that their videos dominate any search on how to do something. It's actualy really hard to find anything but these crap videos

  22. im starting figure skating lessons in 5 days and i watch these video's to actually see how moves and stuff are done and dont get me wrong, the jump was cool but it don't actually teach anyone anything… good vid though… :/

  23. In terms of the adult skating world, you're a young one. If you seriously practice as much as you can, and have the determination, you can do an axel. It may not be for a few years yet, but you will get it. I've even seen videos of adults twice your age landing axels, so age is no excuse. 🙂 BTW, I'm also an adult skater, skating at the ISI Freestyle 1 level, and I started a year and half ago at 30! I'm not doing single jumps, let alone an axel, yet, but I can't wait until I do!

  24. to be fair, the video title doesn't imply that it's a tutorial. no need to be harsh because you think it's a tutorial, its merely a showcase

  25. I have Jackson Premiere's and coronation Matrix Ultima Supreme Blades… since I got them, I've definitely noticed a HUGE improvement on the quality, height and distance of my jumps. They take quite a while to break in, but they're extremely comfortable when you do… double Salchows have been added to my jumping practice repertoire consistently now thanks to these boots XD
