Advanced Ice Skating Jumps : The Bunny Hop Ice Skating Jump

Hi! I’m Simone Fisher and I’m here at Clearwater
Ice Arena in sunny Clearwater, Florida. On behalf of Expert Village, we’re going to introduce
to you some advanced figure skating jumps. Now I’m going to demonstrate the bunny hop.
For the bunny hop, we start out by doing stroking, nice forward stroking. We usually do a couple
of hops at a time, but I’m going to just show you one for now so you can see what I’m doing.
I’m going to start off by taking a couple of strokes and pick up our feet. We stop.
I’ll so it one more time. We want to make sure we kick our leg out straight and we spring
off our back leg. That is the bunny hop.

  1. Okay people yes this isn't that advanced in your mind… but when you first learn this like i did yesterday it is surprisingly difficult… landing on your pic is not the easiest thing in the world to do!!

  2. @KirstyMarieXD Thanks for speaking up for us beginners. I'm an adult beginner myself, and passed my Alpha/Beta (ISI) test tonight. So yes, moves for me like backward crossovers were hard! However, I'm looking forward to the challenge of doing the Gamma/Delta levels, which includes the bunny hop. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. @oceanyah12345 it isn't that hard. i learned it the first day that i tried. just put ur other foot down really fast in front of u after u put down ur toepick.

  4. @KirstyMarieXD Thank you for sticking up for us beginners! What are you currently skating at? I'll be starting ISI Adult Gamma/Delta this fall. Bunny hops are kinda scary because of the whole falling thing. However, I found that if I push that fear aside, I generally do the movement better. Granted, my bunny hops look like small skips/stumbles right now, but I have to start out somewhere.

  5. @KirstyMarieXD I tried them the last day that my rink was open, and once I got the hang of doing them (the "line trick" REALLY helps), they came fairly easily. I still do have that fear of falling, but according to another skater at the rink, she said that they looked really good, and would be considered "passing" in a test. ๐Ÿ™‚ However, since it's been a few months since I've been on the ice due to my rink being closed, we'll see how it goes in a few weeks. lol.

  6. We have just been learning this and have to do it in a sequence, like cross rolls onto the bunny hop and straight into a drag.. I think once you fully you fully understand how to do it, its really easy to do, it only took me 20 mins to perfect it ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. @KirstyMarieXD I'm sorry to say this, but you're not gonna be an advanved skater in four months, advanced skaters are more like.. figure skating for two years, or four. If you can't do this by then.. you fail pretty much unless you were still really young when you started. So this is not really advanced figure skating..

  8. @KirstyMarieXD were not all boasting, were just saying that overall these arnt really advanced moves like double or triple jumps… im just saying it gives the wrong impression but yes everyone found this difficult when they started like me ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. @KirstyMarieXD i think i STARTED learning this in like month 2 of skating lessons, i didnt ever really try it untill like month 4 and never got it down till like month 5. it CAN be very difficult but if you practice it enough it will be easy to you! ๐Ÿ˜€

  10. I've never tried it before, I started up ice skating a month and a 1/2 ago, and I am moved up to level 4 now. I would like to see if i could do it in my free skating time. I used to ice skate when i was 3, and i have done ballet for the past 4 years, so im sure that training will help me ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. I woulod like to say level 4 out of 8 levels total. So you can place that however high or low you want to.

  12. There was a male that came upto me and said I shouldn't do them how the woman did on the video and I have to be constantly on my toes and at the end land on my toe before going off
I'm not sure if he just wanted buisness, but I can do bunny hops my way and how the woman on the video does them at full speed fine, I've never fallen backwards doing them, what do you think?

  13. This was the first "jump" I ever learned at figure skating. It's definitely not advanced. It's very easy and basic, you should change the title

  14. SHE FORGOT THE TOEPICK (I learnt it with toepick up then you put toepick down with other leg and hop off toepick then toepick goes up again)

  15. This may be one of the worst "step by step" videos I've seen on here. She doesn't explain how to do it, she definitely doesn't do it right (no use of toepick) and the camera is too far away to see what's going on anyways.
