Coastal Now – The Equestrian Team

Becoming the coach of the team has been
really a great experience for me. These girls work really hard. They’re here two
three times a week, some of them are here more than they even need to be here. They work really really hard. Our horse shows are around 5:00 a.m. is when we get up
our registration is at 7:30 a.m. I started on the team last year and I
was just started out as like walk trot which is the most basic class that you
can start out in. And then I rode all through last season and this season I
knew that I was getting to the point where I could possibly point out which
means I would go up to the next division so I did that at the second-to-last
horse show so I was in walk trot canter and then I’m doing that I also qualified
for zones so I’m able to go compete. Taylor Landis won the Cassione Cup this
year. There’s only so many people in the entire country that get to go to the
Cassione Cup.This is a huge opportunity and she won that for our team out of our
entire region. We are zone 5 region 3 and we’re very very honored to have this
opportunity. Honestly I’m just trying to stay calm as possible and it’s mainly
when I’m jumping the course I try and think of it one fence at a time like
piece it apart because it can be overwhelming just walking into a ring if
everybody staring at you on a horse you’ve ever ridden before. I’ve been riding since I was seven and
I knew that when I went to college I didn’t want to stop riding so I’m from
New York and I wanted to come down south because I love the warmth and my
grandparents are here but I only applied to schools in the South that has the
equestrian team. The equestrian team was a big reason I came to Coastal.
