Figure Skating Jumps – Off Ice Rotation Exercises

hey guys it’s Mary welcome back to my
channel today we’re gonna work on some off ice exercises to help our rotation in
the air get ready for some doubles triples quads
quints hope you guys are ready for this all for our first exercise we are going
to do heel taps this is going to help create more time in the air let’s start
off with some singles then warm our way up to doubles and triples next we’re going to do some split half
turns on the ice we can do some split singles to help create more room for our
doubles same thing off ice let’s do some split half turns and then later split
full turns to practice getting height before rotating in the air now that we’re warmed up let’s practice
our backspin position in the air let’s review our H position when we take off
on the ice we want to get as high and open as possible then squeeze as tight as
possible because with physics when we’re more
open and tightly squeezed we will rotate faster for doubles and triples let’s
warm up our first position for righties we are going to meet on the right side
of our body arms are in the open air position we have our arm right here in a hoop like this side angle here let’s just practice rotating in that
position we’re going to focus on keeping our shoulders stable so we don’t want to
rotate lopsided because we’re not jumping on the ice lopsided for our doubles and triples so practice just stay level Stage two
now we’re here we’re going to squeeze bringing our arms but they over to the
right not here but over here stage one stage
two and we’re bringing our arms and ankles together
at the same time as nice and tight as possible both ankles are touching
let’s warm up in that position just hopping around remembering to keep
our shoulders level our ankles are going to be squeezed tight – we’re not
have shaky shoulders we’re staying nice and level or stage three we’re
gonna practice checking out stage 1 stage 2 stage 3
arms ares taying closed while the knee goes up and pops out knee pops out
before the arms so stage 3 so again so the free leg
the landing leg just popped up just a hair sooner let’s put it all together stage one
and stage two stage three this next one is a fun one guys we have
quarter-turn hops we’re going to do in a quarter turn
hop back half turn hop back three quarters of turn hop back and then one
full rotation top that this is gonna help with timing and rhythm so let’s try
that whatl I like about this exercise is
that we’re practicing going to the left and to the right clockwise and
counterclockwise because in skating we want everything to be symmetrical let’s
implement that same idea but this time we’re going to make sure we’re not
spinning like this now that we’re super warmed up we are
going to do full turns let’s try to do four in a row we’re
going to land on nice soft bent knees never land on straight knees because we
need to bend for our body to absorb the impact of our body and then we’re going to stop
landing with the chest up so like this land nice and strong for our last rotational off
ice exercise let’s try double turns in the air get nice and ready to get those
full two revolutions in the air in order to complete both for evolutions in the
air squeeze the arms squeeze the ankles plan we’re going to slowly hop out on
one foot to simulate a jump landing jump up high squeeze a bit tight and hop out
to stop in the landing but you can also land on two feet to
embrace the landing and then hop out hope everybody like these off ice
exercises this it will be for sure a good tool to help with your rotations on and
off ice be sure to LIKE subscribe and say see you guys next happy skating
