Hiking to Kjeragbolten (the Boulder of Kjerag) | VISIT NORWAY

Hikers that make their way up to Kjerag – are rewarded with
a breathtaking view of the Lysefjord. My name is Johannes,
and I work as a nature guide in Norway. This is a demanding 6 hour 11 kilometer hike Along the way you will bridge
approximately 800 meters of elevation. Be aware that it’s only possible to hike to Kjerag
from mid May to September, – as it is dangerous in the winter. And remember that even if the conditions
are good at the start – it might be windy and rainy at the top. In case of bad conditions
please listen to the advise – given by the staff at the trail head. So what should you prepare
before hiking to Kjerag? Make sure you are in shape. We have had several occasions
where our rescue team – had to help tourists down from the mountain – because they have been overestimating
their physical abilities. Don’t start too late,
be back before nightfall. Bring proper gear. Dress warm, – use sturdy mountain boots, – and leave your sneakers and jeans at home. Sneakers don’t belong
in the Norwegian mountains, – and jeans only stay wet and cold
in bad weather. Make sure you are using
wind and water proof clothes. An extra set of dry clothes in your backpack – is good to have in case you get wet. Bring enough food and water
for your whole hike. If you are uncertain about what to bring
– you can check out our packing list video. Check the weather forecast
before you start the hike. It will be colder at the mountain top
than at the start – and weather conditions may also change rapidly
during the day. You don’t have to hike to Kjerag with a guide,
– but there are possibilities to join a guided tour. Have a safe hike!
