Horse Training for Equestrian Games : How to Compete in Working Hunter

To compete in a working hunter class, you
first want to make sure that your horse is extremely well groomed, they should be clipped,
their feet should be clean and you don’t want to have any boots on your horse or any bell
boots on. In most cases, your horse should be braided and you are not allowed to have
a margolin except for a standing martingale and only in the jumping classes. And your
tack, you once again are not allowed to have a flash or a figure 8 nose band, the bit should
be pretty simple although a pilum is allowed. And a fitted, nice white saddle pad, a hunt
seat saddle and a leather fuzzy girth. Your tack should be very clean and as a rider,
you should be well turned out in a nice pair of show riding pants, beige or khaki, polished
tall boots, a long sleeved shirt with a collar, a blazer, a riding jacket in a dark color,
hairnet and a black velvet riding hat. And for the class itself, your horse needs to
have a lot of scope, needs to be able to comfortably jump 4 feet in a nice easy going way.
