Lake Erie College Western Riding

I chose Lake Erie College because the one
on one experience that we get here, it’s very close knit, it’s more like a family. They have equine program and they have the
equine teams so you don’t have to be an equine major to be on the teams. Everyone around here is really friendly and
always willing to help you out. You develop a close relationship with your
teacher and your classmates. And we also have a great Western team with
a great coach. Seth he, he really just brightens up everyone’s
day. When you get in the barn he’s always smiling. Our team isn’t really large, practice groups
are usually like three to five kids. You know, we really have enough time for him
to talk to each person individually. Like a really good opportunity for our coach
Seth to work with us. You know Seth has really built up all of our
confidence when it comes down to showing. Coming to Lake Erie College you get a nice
small college atmosphere on the campus. It’s a beautiful campus. We have walk-trotters all the way up to the
open riders. We encourage anybody that wants to ride or
has any interest to join the team and to give it a try. I’m excited to further our knowledge on like
riding Western horses and doing the events, so I think that will be really fun. I’m more of an English rider, so being on
the Western team I’ve really developed a much better position for horsemanship. Because I was originally an English rider
as well, I had done a little bit of Western riding in the past. The main part is being able to use both disciplines
in the show arena, and I think that it really gives a big advantage to our team when we’re
showing because most of us do have both of those backgrounds. I think I’ve improved a lot on like working
with different and like under different situations. They learn the proper seat and techniques
to ride the Western horses, and it kind of broadens their base of knowledge. We have a great equine facility. It’s about fifteen minutes from the main campus. I like the facilities because we have like
enough room where there’s like, you know, everyone can be doing different things at
the same time. The equestrian center is a beautiful, beautiful
facility, and I think the addition of the Western program and the facilities that we’re
gonna add for that are only gonna enhance the experience at the college. You’re gonna make it a truly total equestrian
experience with the addition of the Western to the already fantastic English and Dressage
programs that we have here. I think it’s important that students know
all the different ways that they can show their talents or abilities and pick what they
really enjoy doing. So I think that that’s going to be really
important when they start the uh- with the Western program.
