Life as a Professional Snowboarder – Marco Smolla 2012

My style is to just have fun when I am snowboarding, and I like it best when the snow is really deep. The life of a professional snowboarder is very special to me because I have the opportunity to travel the world, and I’m constantly searching for the best snow conditions and have a lot of fun with that. I have been to Norway, all over the Alps, in North America, and this year even to Iran and China. Traveling the world and going snowboarding is really a special thing and I appreciate my life as a professional snowboarder. When I go snowboarding I just have fun but the difference is that I always want to show a unique style. In the summer I spend a lot of time in the gym. In general I try to train my body in coordination, endurance and simply power to protect myself from injuries in the winter time so I can hopefully snowboard the whole year. I’ve known Marco since 2007. We are working on his speed and power but without training his muscles. That’s good for additional air-time which means that he has more time in the air to do his tricks. Red Bull has been an avid supporter for 5 years now and they help me every winter to be able to snowboard and film in the very best conditions. For the last few years I have been a member of Red Bull Upsprings with all the young guns from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. This concept really appeals to me and so I want to support the new and young rookies again. My highlight this year will surely be a trip to Alaska. I have been dreaming of this for years now… to go boarding or in the best case go up the mountains with a helicopter and shoot a film there. In Alaska the mountains are something totally different. They are huge. There is an endless number of different lines and Alaska, I believe, is a snowboarders dream place to experience the mountains there and go boarding.
