Teach Children Skiing | Episode 2 : Conditions and Basics

Hi everybody, This is Nicholas and this is William and this is Teach Children Skiing Episode 2. Getting your children skiing in ideal conditions is very important. You try to take your kids out in a blizzard, they’re not going to have fun they are going to be cold. You take them out when the snow is too hard they’re not going to be able to control their skis. Take advantage of a good day. Make sure the conditions are nice Make sure it’s sunny. Spring time is a good time to go out. “Go all the way to the bottom of the chairlift” It’s going to make the kid’s enjoy themselves. Your going to have a better time teaching them. The other key feature that I always worked with was make sure your kids are comfortable in their snow clothes. Spend the early part of the season in their snow gear playing in the snow. Let them get used to being in their gear. and then introduce the skiing part to it. on a nice ideal day. It’s going to make everything work a lot better. When teaching your children how to ski a nice flat fall line is important. You can see the run behind me is not only smooth coming down the hill. but is a very even plane going side to side. That makes it easy for kids to ski downhill in a straight line. without getting pulled to one side or the other. Another key feature is a nice flat section at the bottom even with a little uphill run-out to help them control their speed. If you have the right terrain and the ideal conditions. teaching your children how to ski can be really enjoyable and really fun for everybody. “Good skiing dude” The worst thing you can do is take your kid up to the top of the chairlift the first go around without explaining anything. “Now, how do you pizza?” Spend some time at the bottom of the hill on the flat ground. Explain to them what you mean when you say “Pizza” and what you mean when you say “French Fry” “Good job, french fries because they are going straight and pizza because its a triangle.” Explain to them when you say pizza it’s to slow down and stop. French fry is to get your speed up or get moving again. Pizza and french fry, when you explain that to them on flat ground then take them up the chairlift the first time things get a lot easier for them and you. And now we’re going to go over a few of the basic maneuvers that you want to teach your children to ski to help them stay under control and keep everybody safe throughout the day. Pizza and french fry are stop and go basically. Pizza is stop. French fry is go. Pizza is going to help them slow down and come to a stop. French fry is going to keep them going or start going after they have done a pizza. The airplane position is a position that they can use with their arms out to keep their body is the right position. as they are learning to link their turn together side to side using the other two positions pizza and french fry. The wedgease or the edgy-wedgy is a tool the clips the tips of your kids skis together. That helps them maintain the pizza position. It allows them to stop easier because the pizza position is a little difficult for some small kids to maintain for a long amount of time. As the adult you can also ski backwards in front on them. And let them wedge into you and you can control their speed by skiing in front of them. On the first run don’t worry about their ability to stop. you should be fully supporting them helping them maintain their balance and figuring out all this equipment they are using.
