The states hiking the minimum wage for 2019

NEIL: ALL RIGHT, STATES HAVE BEEN HIKING IN A LOT OF STATES WERE WARNING YOU’RE GOING TO DO THIS. BUT IT HASN’T HAPPENED YET. JEFF FLOCK HAS BEEN MONITORING THIS IN 20 STATES NOW LOOK AT THESE HIGHER MINIMUM WAGES. GOOD TO SEE YOU. HAPPY NEW YEAR. REPORTER: HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU. COUNTIES AND CITIES ALSO ARE RAISING IT. AS YOU POINT OUT, 20 STATES ACROSS THE U.S. WE’VE GOT A MAP THAT SHOWS YOU WHERE THE MINIMUM WAGE HAS GONE UP. THIS IS THE FEDERAL MINIMUM WAGE REMAINS OF $7.25, WHICH PEOPLE SAY HASN’T BEEN RAISED SINCE 2009. THE LOCAL COMMUNITIES WILLING TO DO THIS EITHER BY STATE LEGISLATURES OR BALLOT MEASURES OR VOTERS PROVE IT AT THE BALLOT OR JUST COST OF LIVING INCREASES. BIGGEST INCREASES AROUND THE COUNTRY CALIFORNIA AND MASSACHUSETTS BOTH WENT UP 1 DOLLAR TO $12. MADE ONE UP TO $11. ARKANSAS AND MISSOURI UP BY 75 CENTS EACH. WHAT IS THE IMPACT AS YOU POINT OUT? WELL, 5000 — 5 MILLION WORKERS GETTING AN INCREASE IN IF THEY WORK FULL-TIME AT MINIMUM WAGE, THEY’LL MAKE AN ADDITIONAL 90 TO $1300 DEPENDING ON THE STATE AND MUNICIPAL THIS YEAR. COST TO EMPLOYERS BY $.4 BILLION. SOME PEOPLE WERE WORRIED ABOUT THAT. IT’S INTERESTING WITH THAT AMOUNT THAT WE TALKED ABOUT THIS EARLIER IN THE WEEK ABOUT THE POPULATION SHIFTS TENDS TO BE IN THE U.S. AWAY FROM HIGH TAX STATES LIKE ILLINOIS WHERE I SIT RIGHT NOW TO LOW COST STATES IN TERMS OF TAXES. BUT WHEN IT COMES TO MINIMUM WAGE, SOME OF THE FASTEST-GROWING STATES ARE ALSO INCREASING THEIR MINIMUM WAGE AND A LOT OF PEOPLE THINK IT SHOULDN’T BE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DOING THIS. $7.25 IN NEW YORK IS LIVING ON THE STREET PROBABLY APPEARED IF YOU’RE IN THE MIDDLE OF NORTH DAKOTA, $7.25 IS NOT SO BAD. SO MAYBE IT SHOULD BE THE STATES AND LOCAL MUNICIPALITIES THAT HAVE CONTROLLED THIS. NEIL: DID IN A LOT OF DEMS FACE DIFFERENT RATES FOR DIFFERENT TYPES OF WORKERS. THEY HAVE TIERED WAGES FOR LET’S SAY A TEENAGER WORKING AT A LOCAL RESTAURANT VERSUS THOSE WHO WORK AT A MAJOR DEPARTMENT STORE OR WHAT HAVE YOU.>>AS WELL AS DIFFERENT WAGES FOR A BIG EMPLOYER. MORE THAN 50 EMPLOYEES, A SMALL BUSINESS. THAT ACTUALLY MAKES SENSE. IT’S A NIGHTMARE WHEN YOU’RE TRYING TO MAKE A GRAPHIC ON THIS AND TRY TO EXPLAIN IT. BUT IT ACTUALLY MAKE SENSE BECAUSE EVERY STATE, EVERY MUNICIPALITY IS DIFFERENT AND MAYBE THEY SHOULD BE THE ONES SETTING THE DEAL INSTEAD OF DECLARING A MINIMUM WAGE FOR EVERYBODY. NEIL: YOU ARE CRITICIZING OUR GRAPHICS FOLKS. REPORTER: THEY WOULD DO WHATEVER. BY THE WAY, MY FIRST RAVE AS AN EMPLOYEE WAS WHEN JIMMY CARTER SIGNED A RAISE IN THE MINIMUM WAGE. THAT WAS MY FIRST RACE AT GOD. NOT BECAUSE OF ANYTHING I DID BUT MINIMUM WAGE WENT UP. TRENT DO SOMETHING SIMILAR.

  1. The flunky states need your taxes. More wages more taxes. Best move on if you want to make it like a real American! We don't want you coming to red states! We saw what you let happen in your home states! Ignorance is no excuse…

  2. Surprise! The more successful states, with higher educational attainment, better health care, lower crime rates are the states with the higher minimum wage; the shithole states, with dreadful schools, shorter lifespan, higher crime rates are the states with the lowest minimum age. Really, what a surprise.

  3. Why should RURAL People GET PAID MORE to GET TAXED MORE to Give Their Hard earned MONEY to BIG CITY POLITICIANS in Their State? Where are The Yellow Vests when You need Them?

  4. Wage hikes are to pay more taxes and to drive out small business.. Not to help anyone Exsept political parties and illegals their voting base..

  5. Oh oh say bye bye to ur state government hand outs. You'll be making too much to qualify(at least cut down). SMDH, u wanted higher wages now ur gonna get it. Good luck.

  6. Arkansas raised our minimum wage 75¢ and store prices across the board have risen today. The store manager said the owners told her they had to raise prices to offset the increase.
The increase of 75¢ actually turns into close to a dollar when you add the additional payroll taxes. SS, Medicare, unemployment and workman’s comp all increase for the employer.

  7. Min wage isn't supposed to be a good income. smfh.

sarcasm I feel so bad for people on disability like me. I get more money per month on disability than min wage workers do in the highest min wage state. (still) Suckers.

  8. more tax for them and closing more stores and Jobs. soon government will have control of us the people they just got to get rid of the middle clase people 😂😂😂 let's enjoy it now before it all comes down

  9. Donald Trump has been a political bullsh*t artist since the beginnings of his shady, scummy, shiftless life.
From his spurious evasion of the Vietnam draft to his serial bankruptcies and business failures, his wrecked marriages, and his
current reign of misrule, Donald Trump’s ability to detonate a media IED to distract from his troubles has always served him well.
Whenever there’s trouble from some Trump outrage, he never apologizes, never corrects his behavior and never, ever goes forth and sins no more.

Instead, he deliberately creates some larger outrage, tossing red meat to a media always eager to chase it.

That was the Trump shutdown from the beginning, and the reason for his manic insistence on “The Wall” scam as its justification.

  10. Las Vegas' residents are facing higher rent & food prices. I'll be happy whenever they make it a local decision and give Clark County workers a minimum wage of $10/ hour !😁

  11. you think raising the minimum wage is smart??? where do these people who make minimum wage go and buy groceries ? where do these people buy their clothes??? they buy them from businesses who can keep their prices low enough so their groceries can be affordable. so when these businesses hike their prices up because they need to pay their employees more money, doesnt that defeat the purpose of raising the minimum wage. that extra money Susie got for working at mcdonalds, she just spent that because her local grocery market just raised the prices of milk and bananas………. uhhhh im done………………………..

  12. This really boils down to what is the job WORTH to the person paying for it? Raise Min wage to $15, ALL jobs WORTH less will have to be eliminated. Video Min wage vs Honda Civic explains this.

  13. if neil claims to be a republican, that makes him a liar, pubs love socialism every bit as much as the crats and he knows it, socialism and food stamps is a direct side effect of a so called capitalist culture, more like a banana republic though, get it right for once neil

  14. Politians don't know what is to have a business ,the new minimum wage is going to bring more robotics and less humans to the business owners and some will just leave to other states , just look at California lots of business are leaving.

  15. It's funny that I am in a skilled trade, and when I started in the business 5 years ago I made $4 more than minimum wage. Now McDonald's workers are earning as much to flip burgers as I did four years ago making Minor Invasive Surgical Equipment. After four years, 3 raises, and two promotions, I only make $5 above the NEW minimum wage. So basically I put in all of that class time and work for economically nothing. So that someone who has 4 kids, no spouse, and never went to college, can make more money to flip burgers because they made an irresponsible life choice and the rest of us pay for it. Literally. That's messed up, because other wages are not compensated for the increase in minimum wage. Not to mention it only causes costs of goods to increase because now businesses have to pay their employees more. Oh well…

  16. My first working day my boss told me you're getting paid minimum wage because you're worth minimum wage, from this day forward make yourself self so indispensable to me did I can't imagine run this place without you,and you will get raises.

  17. Common sense from President Trump each location to determine their own minimum wage. You can not set minimum wage of Boston or New York to a towns of under 50 k population. Hour wage of 15/hr that is about 20/hr after all taxes. Every thing will increase and it not look pretty.

  18. It should be Federal so that there isn't a "race to the bottom." Productivity has been up and wages no longer follow as they did in the past. The Government needs to stand-up to private capital.

  19. i mean shouldnt the minimum wage go up annually if even 1% to adjust with cost of living? 2009 thats kinda riduculous
